New Additions: A Day at the Native Plant Sale
Today was a good day for Heritage Hill.
My mom and I made the drive to the Sautee Nacoochee Center's native plant sale together and came home with the van loaded — new plants joining the sanctuary, each one chosen with purpose.
Wildflowers & Perennials
Red Bee Balm (Monarda didyma), Virginia Spiderwort (Tradescantia virginiana), Georgia Aster (Symphyotrichum georgianum), Stokes Aster (Stokesia laevis), Nodding Wild Onion (Allium cernuum), Garden Phlox (Phlox paniculata) and Clustered Mountain Mint (Pycnanthemum muticum).
The Black-eyed Susans (Rudbeckia hirta) came home a different way — dug from my mom's garden, passed hand to hand the way plants should be.
Shrubs
Sweet Pepperbush (Clethra alnifolia 'Ruby Spice'), Buttonbush (Cephalanthus occidentalis), Mountain Witch Alder (Fothergilla × intermedia 'Mt. Airy'), and Virginia Sweetspire (Itea virginica 'Henry's Garnet').
And waiting on the porch when we got home — two Witch Hazels (Hamamelis virginiana), arrived by mail order, right on time.
Everything goes in the ground tomorrow.
